Tompkins County Seeks Paid Poll Workers for April Presidential Primary
Poll Workers strengthen our democracy and are critical to ensuring transparent and accurate elections. Tompkins County is currently looking for poll workers, a paid position that includes paid training.
More than 300 people are needed to work as election inspectors and operate the polls on Election Day. To apply, you must be age 17 or older, a registered voter in Tompkins County (or pre-registered if under age 18), represent either the Republican or Democratic Party, and enjoy people and service to others. Note, there is currently an increased need for poll workers representing the Republican Party.
Poll workers are only needed a few days a year, and are responsible for reporting to work at the designated time, preparing the polling place for voting, setting up voting equipment, processing the voters, and closing the polling place. Workers are also required to attend an inspector training class every year as well as an annual session for machine training. Workers are paid $16.61 an hour for the general election and primary day, and receive $40.00 for attending training.
