Minding Your Business: Seneca Physical Therapy

Name of Business: Seneca Physical Therapy

Address: 609 N. Franklin St., Watkins Glen, NY

# Years in Business: 15

Owner/Owners: Dr. Amanda Smith-Socaris, PT, DPT, OCS

Why did you start your business? To fill the need for high quality physical therapy in our community, to build an excellent team, and to provide a top notch patient experience. I came to Watkins Glen, specifically, because of my love of the area and its people.

Tell me about your business: Seneca PT is an outpatient physical therapy clinic with four physical therapists. We work with patients of all ages (5 to 95, so far) to help with recovery from injury and surgery, improve movement, strength and function. We enable people to get back to doing the things they love to do. People can come to us without seeing a doctor first in almost all cases, which makes it easier to get the help they need.

Who are your customers? Our patients are the people in our community and

surrounding areas. We treat vacationers and year-rounders alike. Most of our patients hear about us from their doctor, friends, family or coworkers. They are the heroes of our story.

What did you do differently during the pandemic that kept your business alive? As an essential business, we were given the flexibility to provide services in a way that minimized risk to our patients. We reduced our capacity for several months to make sure that patients and our team felt safe providing needed care. Within six months we were back to running on all cylinders.

Other Important Information:

We treat injured workers to help them get back to work and avoid re-injury.
