March 24-25:

Celebrate LGBTQ+ Health Week, 7 p.m. Friday, March 24 and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at Beecher Hall in The Park Church, 208 W. Gray St. in Elmira. Theatre, food, and conversation, ELT will present two one-act plays written by area queer artists, J.J. Buechner and Kai DonDero. Tickets: $12.50.

Taste of Downtown 2023, 5 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30 at the Chemung Valley History Museum in Elmira. An evening of food, spirits, music, and community with silent and "surprise" auctions; all supporting the annual Elmira Street Painting Festival. Information and tickets available here.

Southern Tier Literary Life: Upcoming Events


Poets in Play Poetry Reading featuring Aleathia Drehmer, 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 9 via Zoom and in person (location TBD). Prompt: “I think of you anyway, how you never touch the ground”.


Most sessions are held on Zoom and in person. Zoom links will be available on The ARTS Council’s Facebook page.


This event is free and open to the public and attendees are invited to an open mic forum after the reading to share their prompt-inspired work.


Poets in Play is a program held by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes in partnership with Foothills Publishing that invites locally and nationally known writers to read and share their work every other month.


The program is funded in part by Poets & Writers.
